FUMC Gulf Coast Work Team 2006
ACTION
LIST
“We’re
all going!”
Our kick-off “Red Beans & Rice Mondays” dinner event
on February 27, was such a success, we’re doing another: “Red
Beans & Rice Mondays II,” on March 20.
If
you came to the first fundraising dinner, please spread the word.
If you weren’t able to make it, here’s a second chance.
That’s Action Idea Number One: Support the “Red Beans
& Rice Monday’s” fundraisers.
And
then we’ve listed five other immediate ways you can support
our partnership with the Bethany United Methodist Church in New
Orleans as we work together to bring more than money to Gulf Coast
recovery:
1.
Support the “Red Beans &
Rice Monday’s” fundraisers. Visit our
FUMC website, www.santamonicaumc.org, click on “Gulf Coast
Work Team” and use the flyer for the “Red Beans &
Rice Mondays II” event (Monday, March 20), to print copies
for your workplace, and for emailing to your friends and associates.
2.
Make a financial donation to help
our Gulf Coast Work Teams in their efforts to rebuild our partner
church, Bethany UMC, in New Orleans. [Checks payable
to SMFUMC, and notated for GCWT.]
3.
Donate Frequent Flyer Miles to our
adult FUMC Gulf Coast Work Team, leaving for New Orleans on April
9. [On the FUMC website we’ve also posted
a “Wish List” of other items you could donate or arrange
to have contributed.]
4.
Start making Red Beans & Rice
Mondays a regular part of your week at home. [We’ll
show you how to turn a Zatarain’s Red Beans & Rice box
into a perfect bank for collecting weekly contributions from your
family.]
5.
Volunteer to be part
of the GCWT Support Crew at Home, helping with logistics, fundraising,
publicity and more.
6.
Visit the GCWT table at coffee hours
each Sunday for “Action List” updates
and new ways to strengthen our partnership with Bethany United Methodist
Church in New Orleans.

Wish
List
This is a general Wish List for the FUMC Gulf Coast Work Team as
they prepare for the trips to New Orleans...
1.
A digital still camera with docking/printing station,
would allow us to take and give photos nearly "on the spot."
2.
A wireless laptop computer so our team can send
daily blogs and pictures of our progress in bringing Bethany UMC
back to life.
3.
Powerpoint presentation software, so we can create
visual presentations on our return, both for our congregation and
others in Los Angeles who we hope will follow our lead in becoming
a Partner Church.
4.
Buy a Folding Chair for Bethany UMC. Until the
sanctuary reconstruction gets under way -- Pastor Edwards just signed
the rebuilding contract -- the congregation will worship on folding
chairs. We've already delivered 100, at a cost of $16.25 each. We're
looking for FUMC members who will cover the cost and "endow
their own chair at a Southern institution of higher worship."
Please
contact Rev. Larry Young
if you have any questions. Check back here again soon and we should
have more "Wish List" items and details on how you can
make a purchase from a major store here in Los Angeles (Home Depot,
Staples, Sears, etc.) and have your "gift" purchase picked
up directly by a Bethany UMC member in New Orleans, eliminating
shipping costs and guaranteeing fast delivery.
